MHS Volleyball Invitational

The Mammoth High School Invitational doubled in size this year, with 12 teams, 3 courts and 2 gyms. There was a lot of excitement throughout the event, held last weekend. The final standings were:

Burbank, 1st place;

Otay Ranch, 2nd place;

Lone Pine, 3rd place;

Rosamond, 4th place.

Other schools participating were: California City, Bishop V, Bishop JV, Mineral County from Hawthorne, Nev., and Tioga High School from the west side of the Sierra.

Mammoth JV gave the varsity teams a run for their money. They managed to keep the ball in play, communicate and work well as a team, according to Coach Megan Guffey.

The Varsity team played at its peak against Lone Pine before dropping a nail-biter. There was a tremendous transfer of skills from drills into games. The team was hustling, transitioning, communicating, and simply working like a machine; a great way to start the season. The athletes have taken the initiative and ownership over their season. The plan is to keep building and show a promising year.

Stats for the varsity throughout the weekend were:

*Allison Vanko(captain): 3 aces, 7 digs, 4 kills, 54 assists

*Sam Knadler (captain): 5 aces, 1 dig, 6 kills, 2 assists

*Jessie Harris: 6 aces, 2 digs,  20 kills, 7 blocks

*Hannah Hein: 1 ace, 2 digs, 3 kills, 1 assist,4 blocks

*Kate Desalvo (captain): 8 aces, 11 digs, 21 kills, 2 blocks

*Sydney Knadler: 5 aces, 3 digs, 10 kills, 3 blocks

*Kristen Sigmen: 6 aces, 3 digs, 2 kills, 1 block
