Two new complaints made against daycare provider
Lupe Almaguer of Mammoth Lakes was arrested on Oct. 5 pursuant to an arrest warrant. Almaguer, a daycare provider, was taken into custody for alleged crimes of sexual abuse against two children who had previously been under his care but are now adults, specifically five counts of 288 PC (Lewd and Lascivious Acts with a Child under 14), according to the original press release from the Mammoth Lakes Police Department and the Mono County District Attorney’s Office.
On Nov. 16, Almaguer made his second court appearance, this time in Bridgeport and in person (his previous appearance was via web video in Mammoth Lakes where Almaguer pleaded not guilty to the two complaints). At the second hearing, District Attorney Todd Graham submitted two new first amended felony complaints against Almaguer, which means two new alleged victims had come forward with similar sexual abuse complaints, Graham said, bringing the total number of complaints/potential victims to four.
Almaguer pleaded not guilty to all of the complaints. After confirming that Almaguer was to have zero contact with the two new individuals that had made complaints, as well as the original two, the case was continued to a pretrial conference on Dec. 14. Almaguer remains in the Mono County Jail with a bail of $500,000.
