DSES Warriors

For the fifth year, Disabled Sports Eastern Sierra and Mammoth Mountain teamed up the week of Jan. 31-Feb. 4 to both honor and entertain military personnel wounded, injured or ill (as well as their families). Thirty-five participants took part in the event, including Staff Sergeant Richard “Gonzo” Gonzalez who sustained multiple gunshot wounds while serving in Iraq. As part of his rehabilitation, he has taken up photography and served as the group’s de facto photographer while they were here. When we offered to pay him for his photographs, Gonzo immediately donated the money back to the DSES Wounded Warrior Program. See this week’s print version of The Sheet for more photos from “Gonzo.” (Photo: SSGT Richard Gonzalez)
