More than two years after the incident, the Christopher Ward case is still working its way through the Mono County Superior Court System.
A three-day trial for Ward, the professional surfer who was arrested on Jan. 8, 2008 in Mammoth Lakes for assault with a deadly weapon, among several other charges, had been tentatively scheduled for March 30. A brief hearing this morning (March 8), however, changed that. Ward’s legal counsel, Gerald Mohun of Liebersbach, Mohun, Carney and Reed was in court representing the athlete who, himself was not present. Mohun stated that the civil case had been settled and therefore the March 30 trial was vacated. The matter was then set for disposition on April 26 at 10 a.m.
Ward was arrested early in the morning of Jan. 8, 2008 for allegedly hitting three female victims outside of Whiskey Creek in Mammoth. The weapon he allegedly threatened at least one of the women with was a block of ice, according to an Aug. 13, 2009 story in the San Clemente Times, http://www.sanclementetimes.com/index.php?mact=News,cntnt01,detail,0&cntnt01articleid=1853&cntnt01returnid=99
