Roger was born on December 20, 1934, and passed away on April 11, 2010, following a lengthy battle with cancer. He grew up in Los Angeles and would make frequent ski trips to Mammoth Mountain during his high school and college years and honeymooned there with his bride, Myra, in 1959.
Roger retired from government service in 1995 and moved from Washington D.C. back to California to enjoy his golden years in Santa Cruz. He and Myra would make frequent trips to Mammoth visit his son John’s family.
He could be found playing beach volleyball with John at the old Grumpy’s, loved hiking throughout the Eastern Sierra and in Yosemite, and often commented on how much his trips to Mammoth meant to him.
Roger had a great love for music and the outdoors which, in later years, he shared with his granddaughter, Cassidy. He will be remembered for his quick wit, intense conversations, giving spirit, a great laugh and for taking the path less traveled.
Roger is survived by his wife of 51 years, Myra, of Santa Cruz, his sister Pat LeClair of Aptos, his daughter Bonnie Morris of Washington, D.C., and son John, daughter-in-law Lolita and granddaughter Cassidy Morris of Mammoth Lakes.
A celebration of Roger’s life will be held in Santa Cruz on May 1.
