Sierra Bounty Produce Collective is a new non-profit organized to support local agriculture. One of its first initiatives will be to sell produce shares!
Sierra Bounty has created a program similar to that of many CSA’s (Community Supported Agriculture), except that it is pooling produce from 6 local farmers to create a fantastic box of produce. Shareholders pay a fee for the summer and receive 10 produce boxes every other week from mid-June until the end of October. Produce boxes contain local fruits and vegetables and, if desired, fresh local eggs, cut flowers and Great Basin breads. More information can be found our website at www.sierrabounty.org
Those interested should contact Sierra Bounty immediately, as produce shares are expected to go fast! Info: Sara at 760.500.4449.

He’s performed with Ian Tyson, Michael Martin Murphy, Lacy J. Dalton, Brenn Hill, Waddle Mitchell and Dave Stamey, and recently played with Dave Stamey at the Genoa Music and poetry festival.

McKeon, Boxer and “Mt. Andrea”
In a joint press statement issued on April 29, U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA) and U.S. Rep. Howard P. “Buck” McKeon (R-Santa Clarita) announced they have introduced legislation to rename Peak 12,240 in Mono County “Mt. Andrea Lawrence,” in memory of the late Andrea Lawrence, a conservationist, three-time Olympian and member of the Mono County Board of Supervisors.
Peak 12,223, currently only identified by its elevation, is located in Mono County near the Tuolumne County border, on the edge of the Ansel Adams Wilderness east of Yosemite National Park. The John Muir trail passes close to the peak.
Lawrence remains the only American double gold medalist in alpine skiing. She was inducted into the U.S. National Ski Hall of Fame in 1958 at age 25, and in 2002, sports historian Bud Greenspan called her “the greatest Olympian of all time.”
Well known in environmental and political circles, she was a driving force behind such causes as restoring Mono Lake and reducing air pollution in the Great Basin, among many others.
Lawrence served for 16 years on the Mono County Board of Supervisors and in 2003 founded the Andrea Lawrence Institute for Mountains and Rivers (ALIMAR), which champions environmental protection and economic vitality in the region. She passed away on March 31, 2009, the day President Barack Obama signed into law the Omnibus Public Lands Act, which Lawrence also supported and worked on.
The Mono County Board of Supervisors, the Wilderness Society, the Sierra Club, the Mono County Democratic Central Committee, the Mammoth Town Council, the Mono Lake Committee, ALIMAR, Mammoth Mountain Ski Area CEO Rusty Gregory, former Mono County Supervisor and local businessmen Tim Alpers and Lawrence’s family have all publicly expressed support for the legislation. –Press Release
