One mile to freedom!
Hey, all you runners, the Fourth of July is only a couple of weeks away and the High Sierra Striders are getting ready to host the 5th Annual Footloose Freedom Mile. Be sure to turn your entry form into Footloose Sports by July 3 for only $20!

MCA hosts ESLT art show
Eastern Sierra Land Trust opens its second annual Art for Conservation Show & Sale, which runs July 1-31, Tuesday through Sunday, noon- 5 p.m. daily, at Mono Council for the Arts gallery in Mammoth Lakes.
ESLT is partnering with more than 20 local artists featuring works created at a Plein Air Paint Out held at the Benton Hot Springs Ranch conservation easement in May.
Proceeds from the sale will benefit ESLT’s important land preservation work. The Mono Council for the Arts gallery is located at 3343 Main Street in the Luxury Outlet Mall in Mammoth Lakes. For more information, e-mail Mary McGurke at mary@eslt.org or call 760.873.4554.
Chalfant: 50 years of power
Celebrate a half-century of Chalfant electricity Saturday, June 26, from 6-10 p.m. at Chalfant Valley Fire Department, 215 Valley Rd. The fire department will host a potluck dinner with barbecue Tri-Tip. Odd-number addresses can bring a side dish/salad; even-number addresses get to kick in dessert. Everyone should bring their own drinks, place settings, chair and dancing shoes!
At 6:30 p.m., Rick Phelps, Executive Director of the Eastern Sierra Energy Initiative will present a Commemorative plaque to the Chalfant community.
The Pea Vine Pickers will play 50’s to country to rock ‘n roll for dancing under the Chalfant lights of Chalfant. Share stories of Chalfant-electricity, fun times, floods, earthquakes, etc. as we will have a station set up to record your memories for the generations to come!
Spoken word poetry will be read, and share plants or veggies to help someone else start their garden. Info: call 760.872.7846.
MHS golf tourney
The Mammoth High School Football program hosts its 14th annual Golf Tourney on Monday, July 19, at Sierra Star Country Club.
Format for will be a four-person scramble. Entry fee includes a hotdog lunch with beverages served at check in and during play, plus a post tournament barbecue and raffle.
Individual trophies awarded first-, second- and third place teams. Prizes will also be awarded for longest drive and closest to the pin on par.
And, if you’re really on your game, you could win a brand new car, which will be given away to the golfer who nails the first hole in one.

Food pantry open
The Salvation Army and Church on the Mountain have opened a food pantry in Mammoth to serve those in need of food assistance. The food pantry has a well-stocked facility at 220 Sierra Manor Rd., adjacent to Higerd Plumbing, to provide assistance and accept food and cash donations. Hours of operation: Monday/Wednesday 2-5 p.m. and Saturday noon-4 p.m.
