Ah, a post-election letter …

Dear District 4 Voters:

After the results of the June 8 election, I am both honored and humbled. The fact that an ordinary person can step up to represent the community and face important issues, shows what a great country we still live in. In the coming months I will continue to stay aware and focus on all the important situations facing our district as we head towards the November runoff.

Not exactly a race for the cup

Dear Editor:

So I wake up this morning and look out the window at Manzanita to see that they snuck a double yellow line down the middle of it instead of the broken yellow line that’s been there for years.

BRILLIANT! That will slow down all those race car drivers.

Just to remind you, in case you don’t remember, a broken yellow line means it’s legal to pass using the oncoming lane, if it is safe. A double yellow line means you can’t cross over for any reason … ever.

Well, much to the surprise of our esteemed town leaders, people actually walk down Manzanita. You know, like pedestrians, which is what our town leaders want: a feet-first society. The problem here is that people also drive down Manzanita and there are no sidewalks and one person walking down Manzanita immediately  reduces Manzanita from a two lane (barely) road to a one lane road. And more often than not, people walk in groups. I’ve seen 10 or more people walking in a group and trying to drive around them usually means driving completely in the oncoming lane for a considerable distance.

But now nobody can do that anymore — legally –— because there is a double yellow line down the middle of Manzanita. So. now what do we do? Do we follow behind people at a walk?   So that driving from Dorrance to the frontage road could take the same time as a slow stroll of a mother and child. Do we honk until they move over so we can pass them legally? Is this the best idea for controlling Manzanita drivers?

Could someone from our Road Dept. (do we have a Road Dept.?) tell us how we are supposed to use Manzanita as a road now?

LuLu’s bids fond farewell …

Dear Editor:

The time has come to turn a page in my life and I have decided to close Lulu’s Boutique on July 5. We are having a store wide sale on all inventory from 50-70 percent off. We have some great clothing left, so come in and see us this weekend.

I want to thank you for your past business and tell you how much we have enjoyed having you as our customers and friends these past six years.

I want to thank my wonderful staff, which has been with me and made Lulu’s such a success. Jolene Day has been with me since day one; she has been my manager, my buyer and a daughter to me. Jolene, I could not have done all this without you. Melissa, Megan, Heather, Erica, Andrea, Crystal and Jessie, and all of my employees thank you so much. All of you have made this happen and it has been a wonderful experience. I love you all.

I want to thank Skip from Base Camp and Steven from P3 for being great  neighbors and helping us girls out whenever we needed it.

I especially want to thank Tom Cage for his support, business advice and for giving me the freedom to run my boutique the way I wanted to. You have made me realize that having a business in Mammoth can be fun. You are a true asset to Mammoth and I feel blessed to have gotten to know you as a landlord and friend over the past three years.

Last but not least I want to thank my husband and son for letting me fulfill this dream. I love you both.

Most of you know that I am now a mother again, raising my granddaughters. Maddie and Lexie are attending school in Rancho Mirage, so that is where I live during the school year. The decision to close my boutique was a difficult one for me to make, but the best one for our family.

Thank you my dear friends for supporting Lulu’s. It has been a genuine pleasure. Enjoy your summer and I will see you on the mountain bike trails.

Editor’s Note: Jeanie also said that following a successful negotiation with Mammoth Mountain Ski Area, her lines and inventory will continue to be available at McCoy Sports. Jeanie plans to accompany the McCoy Sports staff to upcoming buyer shows and make all the requisite introductions. We wish her well in the future. Meanwhile, see her last ad on page 30.
