Princess and the Pea

The cast of “Princess and the Pea” (sans the Dust Bunnies) at rehearsal Wednesday. Children ages 5-14 have been rehearsing more than four hours per day after school in preparation for two weekend performances to be held at the Mammoth Lakes Arts Center.

Help! We’re drowning

Please, please help the crew at The Cast Off. “We’re drowning in all the stuff being dropped off at the back of the store when we are closed,” said Cast Off spokespersons. “We gratefully appreciate donations but people are leaving items we cannot accept, such as old washers and dryers, dirty mattresses, torn furniture, broken TV’s, etc., etc. etc. BUT, it is costing us thousands of dollars a year to have this stuff hauled to the dump.”

That, dear readers, translates to thousands of dollars that would otherwise go to the hospital for life-saving equipment, which The Cast Off gang said is equipment one of us may someday need!

The Cast Off is drowning in donations

In addition, all of the “stuff” blocks the dumpster, making daily pickup difficult to near impossible. And as if that weren’t bad enough, to make matters worse, The Cast Off is subject to fines levied by the Town for all the things dumped in the back.

“We love receiving your donations but are facing a major crisis and need your help.” The Cast Off is open for acceptable donations Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Someone is always there from 9:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. on those days to accept donations.

We’ve also learned that if someone is reported leaving items when we are closed, that individual may be subject to a fine by the court system for dumping. So help them, and possibly you, avoid unnecessary fines and fees!

Interact raffles wood

Interact Service Club holds a Wood Raffle through the weekend. Interact students have already donated one cord of wood to a local widow in town, and this is the club’s biggest fundraiser to provide funds for projects. Interact takes students to leadership camps, visits to the Senior Center in Bishop, helps build a home in Mexico, has built a patio at the High School and various other service activities. Chances for a cord are just $5 each, or five for $20. Winner will be picked Monday. Tickets can be purchased at the Java Joint or from any Interact student. Info/questions: call Joanne Hunt at 760.914.0470.
