Hospital Board seat open after Sage resigns

With Hospital Board member Don Sage’s resignation from the Board effective Nov. 3o, the hunt is now on for a new Board member to fill his shoes.

Sage announced his resignation at the November Board meeting with the effective date of Nov. 30. The November meeting was also expected to be the last for Lynda Salcido, who had not been re-elected in the November election. Dr. Dennis Crunk was elected instead and is expected to take his seat at the December Board meeting.

According to Salcido, when the Board accepted Sage’s resignation at the November meeting they were prepared to appoint Salcido in his place to fulfill the remainder of Sage’s term, which expires in 2012. After thinking it over, however, the Board’s legal counsel, David Baumwohl said that the Board seat should first be posted publicly in case any other people from the community were interested in applying.

“We were careful to do everything appropriately,” Salcido said.

Salcido has filled out and turned in an application. Others who might be interested have until Dec. 8 to turn in an application to Robin Connors in the Hospital’s Administrative Offices.

“If there are other applications then the Board will review the nominees and vote at the December meeting,” Salcido explained. “Although, if people has wanted to be on the Board, I would have thought they would have run in the last election.”

The December Board meeting will be held on Dec. 16.
