June Mountain celebrates 50 years of operation

In celebration of 50 years of operation, June Mountain will be offering lift tickets for only $5 on opening day of the 2010-2011 winter season. Scheduled to open on Dec. 16, June Mountain has already received more than 6 feet of natural snowfall in October and November.

With more than 500 acres of terrain and a vertical rise of 2,590 feet, June Mountain lies just 21 miles north of Mammoth Mountain Ski Area. June Mountain is widely regarded for its utter lack of crowds, pristine conditions and great variety of diverse terrain.

June Mountain was voted by the readers of Transworld Snowboarding as the third best terrain park and sixth best pipe in North America. For opening day, June Mountain is scheduled to have terrain parks open on Upper and Lower Sunrise and Mambo.

Following opening day, June Mountain will offer daily lift tickets for $69 for adults (19-64), $52 for youth (13-18), $35 for children (7-12) and seniors (65-79) and free for ages 6 and under and 80+. June Mountain is scheduled to remain open daily until April 24, 2011.

Originally owned by William C. “Bud” Hayward, June Mountain was purchased by Dave McCoy, founder of Mammoth Mountain, in 1986. In 1989 the ski area was one of the first in California to allow snowboarding.
