Cop Shop
Tip A Cop, huge success
Thanks to the generosity of all who attended the Mammoth Lakes Peace Officers Association Tip A Cop fundraiser at Angel’s in Mammoth on April 6, MLPOA raised $2,028 for Disabled Sports Eastern Sierra.
Gracious hosts, owners Todd and Melanie Nagy of Angel’s, along with their fantastic staff, made sure MLPD’s volunteer waiters looked good and got everyone’s order right. They also contributed to the total by pledging 10 percent of the night’s receipts.
Kathy Copeland of DSES, who stopped in to supervise the proceedings, promised the money will be put to good use in making Mammoth’s amazing winter and summer outdoor recreational opportunities available to all.
The Officers Association wishes to thank everyone who turned out to support such a great cause.
Drug seizure in Bishop
On April 4, Bishop police stopped a vehicle for lawful reasons. During the stop, the driver, Rex Alan Hornbaker, 56, of Arizona was found to be in possession of a useable quantity of a controlled substance on his person and was arrested. The vehicle’s passenger, Hornbaker’s significant other, and the couples’ 1-year-old son were released.
Further investigation, and a search of the vehicle by a Bishop PD drug Detection Canine revealed a large quantity of marijuana packed for distribution.
Hornbaker was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of marijuana for sales, possession of a controlled substance, transportation of a controlled substance, child endangerment and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. He was transported to the Inyo County Jail with bail set at $100,000. All information pertaining to the child was forwarded to Inyo County Child Protective Services for review.
