Spolin around in Mammoth
Los Angeles improv group, The Spolin Players, come to Mammoth’s Edison Theatre on April 30 for a night of unscripted and unrehearsed theater games, music, laughter, and family fun.
The Spolin Players feature working character actors from acclaimed TV series, movies, and animated blockbusters. Company members include: Gail Matthius (“Saturday Night Live”), Danny Mann (“Up”), David McCharen (“The Lion King”), Donna Dubain (“I Don’t Know Jack”), Pat Musick (“Rugrats”), John Mariano (“Sopranos”), and Anna Mathias (“Rain Man”).
Using games created by the legendary pioneers of improvisation, Viola Spolin and Paul Sills, The Spolin Players bring completely spontaneous improv theater based on audience suggestions. Their shows are suitable for all ages.
Regarded as “the mother of improvisation,” Viola Spolin created her celebrated games while conducting theater workshops for immigrant children. Her early experiments spawned the improvisational theater boom in the 1950s, which has inspired famous companies including Second City, Story Theater, Compass Players, Sills & Company, War Babies, The Groundlings, The Committee, and hundreds of international companies.
In this tradition, The Spolin Players offer their Mammoth audience an opportunity to see the show that the Los Angeles Times called “Improv as pure and as unpredictable you’ll find it.”
Tickets are $12 for General Admission and $10 for students and seniors. Call 760.934.6592 to reserve your tickets today. Show begins at 7 p.m. on April 30.
