Obituary: Robbie Perry Smith 1949-2011
Robbie Perry Smith, 62, of Mammoth Lakes, died Sunday, April 10, 2011 from complications of a long standing illness. He slipped away peacefully in the arms of the love of his life, Merry Gay Ueberroth. His illness could not diminish his kind, funny and generous spirit. Robbie’s sweet nature and gentle personality will remain forever in the hearts of those who loved him.
Robbie was born on Nov. 22, 1949 to Helen Beuscher and Robert C. Smith in Hollywood, Calif. Robbie’s mother, known by her stage name as Wanda Perry, got Robbie involved in the motion picture industry as a child extra. He was a graduate of Hollywood High School. His curiosity about the mountains led him to Mammoth in 1976, where he fell in love with skiing, hiking and Merry Gay. They loved to walk the places less traveled and excelled at finding good points in secret places. He was a fearless adventurer who saw the world with a boundless sense of awe and wonder, inspiring laughter and fun at every opportunity. He was an accomplished carpenter, water skier, storyteller and good friend. He is survived by siblings Charlie Brown and Joyce Breslin as well as Merry Gay and countless friends and admirers. A celebration of his life is planned for April 30; the location will be announced shortly.
