Obituary: Melanie Garside-Fogarty, 1949-2011

Melanie Garside-Fogarty was born March 20, 1949, to Ron & Erma Garside in Compton, Calif. Her father was a California Highway Patrol officer and her mother a traveler of more than 130 countries.“Mel” grew up in Santa Monica, graduating from “SaMo High” in 1967. She moved  to Lake Tahoe in 1968, but soon relocated to Mammoth. Mel worked several summers cooking at Tioga Pass Resort, shucking oysters at Whiskey Creek, serving gourmet meals at Petrello’s, photographed skiers at Mammoth Mountain and finally settled into a life as a llama packer.Friends and family are invited to join in a celebration of her life on July 3 from noon to 4 p.m. at 148 Crowley Lake Drive.
