LEGO week at Mammoth Library
There’s no better way to build an interest in construction and engineering that building with Legos! Monday through Thursday this week at the Mammoth Library, kids can get all sorts of inside tips and hands-on experience with the fun and functional toy.
Each day from 9-noon, Grades K-3 study Junior Engineering, and from 1-4 p.m., Grades 4-8 study Elementary Engineering. Registration is required for the free classes. Call the Library at 760.934.4777 to sign up.
NIH Foundation makes a splash
Northern Inyo Hospital Foundation in Bishop is hosting a “beat the heat” Summer Swim Party this Saturday, July 23, from 1-5 p.m. at the Bishop City Pool. All residents of the community are invited to the free event, which also includes a complimentary Root Beer Float! Info: www.nih.org.
ML Music Fest a musical feast
The Mammoth Lakes Music Festival features chamber music played by today’s superstars through Aug. 5.
“Star Struck” (July 22): the genius of Mozart and the inspiration of the great Romantic, Robert Schumann.
“Duelling Fiddles (July 23): In addition to a free recital by Sierra Academy of Music student, take in “Unveiling the Stradivari Mystique,” a presentation by world-renowned chemist Dr. Joseph Nagyvary. Festival artists will play a mix of old and new violins, including one by Dr. Nagyvary. (Start time: 6 p.m.)
“Cellissimo!” (July 25): A mix of cello pieces with a veritable meteor shower of stellar musicians playing the Beatles’ “Yesterday” to Astor Piazzolla to Tchaikovsky’s “Souvenir de Florence.”
“Fantasia” (July 27): A tribute to the musical imagination of Haydn, Brahms and Schubert.
“American Beauties” (July 29): U.S. composers featured include a scaled-down arrangement of Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue” for four-hand piano, played by Sarkis Baltaian and In-Sook Park, “Danzas de Panama” by African-American composer William Grant Still, and a juicy Piano Quintet by 19th century Bostonian, Arthur Foote.

Mono County kids fishing fest
Be at the Snowcreek Ponds off Old Mammoth Road on Saturday, June 30, for the 24th Annual Kids Fishing Festival! From 8 a.m.-noon, young anglers can learn from some of the area’s best fishing advisors from the Eastern Sierra Fishing Guides Association. Rods, reels and tackle will be provided, also included: art activities, lots of raffle prizes, and DFG programs and exhibits.
