Town in deep with TOT

Collection of Transient Occupancy Tax (TOT) continues to be a priority for the Town of Mammoth Lakes. At Wednesday’s Council meeting, Community Development Director Mark Wardlaw stated that since the TOT enforcement program began in August, the Town has received 188 tips and 32 new TOT licenses have been issued. Currently there are 17 open cases under investigation.

On Council’s agenda were proposed ordinance changes to the Transient Occupancy Tax and Business License Code, which will solidify the TOT enforcement direction the Town has taken. The changes further spell out and clarify what the Town means when it talks about TOT and enforcement in order to avoid any skirting of the issue with claims that the code is unclear.

Council accepted the proposed changes and will meet on Nov. 30 at 9 a.m. in Suite Z to most likely approve the amended ordinance in full.
