AmeriGas closer to purchase?

Town Councilmember John Eastman only recently became aware of the AmeriGas/ Turner propane deal on the horizon and called for a discussion of the potential purchase of Turner by AmeriGas to be added to Wednesday’s Council meeting agenda as an emergency item. He had been told the deal might be closed as early as this Friday, Jan. 20 and was concerned about a propane monopoly in town.

Town Attorney Andrew Morris said there really wasn’t anything the town could do to block the sale. He agreed to reviewed the Town’s franchise agreement with AmeriGas to determine whether or not it needed any updates.

The Sheet has been following this story for quite some time and was awaiting a call back from Steve Sheffield of Heritage Propane, the parent company of Turner, at press time to confirm if and when the deal might go through. Stay tuned for more information. –Kirkner
