ES Choir ushers in spring
The Eastern Sierra Community Choir, under the direction of Stephanie Everson, presents a Spring Concert at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 24, in Mammoth at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and at 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 25, at First United Methodist Church in Bishop.
Program features Schubert’s “Mass in G,” Mozart’s inspiring “Ave Verum Corpus,” as well as Jester Hairston’s version of the old gospel song “Amen!” Christine and Tom Richards will perform soprano and bass solos, and Andrew Kirk will sing tenor solo. Jane Tindall will accompany.
The Eastern Sierra Community Choir is an enthusiastic group of singers, who take great pride in learning, rehearsing and performing a wide variety of rich classical compositions and operate, under the umbrella of the Inyo Council for the Arts.
This is a free concert, but donations are gratefully accepted.
Learn wonder of the night sky
Experience and learn the “Wonder of the Night Sky: The Spirit of Stargazing.” Join Yale Forestry graduate and U.S. Forest Service volunteer Gina Lopez for a night of celestial exploration and discovery this weekend on Saturday, March 24, from 5-6 p.m. at the Mammoth Ranger Station Auditorium.
You’ll be versed in how the wonders of the night sky have been interpreted by different cultures throughout history.
The engaging and enlightening program is absolutely free!
ICARE fundraising dinner
ICARE (Inyo [and Mono] County Animal Resources & Education) invites the all animal lovers and the general public to its 16th annual Fundraising Dinner on Saturday, April 14, at 6 p.m. in the Charles Brown Auditorium at the Tri-County Fairgrounds complex in Bishop, sponsored by Union Bank and KIBS/KBOV Radio.
The evening includes a top sirloin steak dinner or vegetarian dinner catered by Whiskey Creek, many door prizes, a 50/50 drawing, and a special raffle for an amazing quilt. There will also be an exciting auction of valuable art by local artists and other special items. Proceeds benefit ICARE’s animal welfare programs: low cost spaying/neutering, ICARE Stitch Fund for ill or injured Inyo County Shelter animals and adoption promotion of Inyo County Shelter animals.

Banff Mountain Film Festival
Wilson’s Eastside Sports presents two evenings of mountain films next weekend on Friday, March 30, and Saturday, March 31, in the Charles Brown Auditorium at the Tri-County Fairgrounds complex in Bishop.
From the 300 films entered into the annual home festival in Alberta, Canada, the two evenings in Bishop will feature activities from snow skiing and climbing to kayaking, survival, adventure and more. Be sure and stop by the Friends of the Inyo table and say hello!
Doors nightly at 6 p.m., festival starts at 7 p.m. Tickets $10 each, available at Wilson’s or Inyo Council for the Arts in Bishop, or Access Art and Business Center in Mammoth. Or purchase by phone in advance and pick up them up at the door.

Let’s get this garden started
Univ. of California Cooperative Extension Inyo & Mono Master Gardeners host “Let’s Get This Garden Started!” this Saturday, March 24, at the Bishop Community Garden behind Sterling Heights, in the southeast corner of the Bishop City Park.
Community Workday at 10 a.m.; the Workshop starts at noon.
Students can earn community service hours during the Workday. The Workshop covers soil mixes, composting, seeding, planting cool-season crops, and protecting gardens from spring frost, in addition to a “Hoop House” demo. Receive a cool-season planting guide and plenty of great ideas.

“Bighorn Recovery” WMRS talk
The University of California White Mountain Research Station invites the public to a lecture on Thursday, March 29 at 7 p.m. Alexandra Few, Ph.D., Wildlife Biologist, Sierra Nevada Bighorn Sheep Recovery Program, CA Dept. of Fish and Game, will present “Recovery of Sierra Nevada Bighorn Sheep: Understanding Habitat Use and Distribution.”
Lectures are free and open to the public. WMRS is located at 3000 East Line Street in Bishop.
