According to the-signal.com, a piece of legislation introduced by Congressman Howard “Buck” McKeon and meant to help move forward the land exchange between Mammoth Mountain Ski Area and the Forest Service, was passed in the House of Representatives on April 24 with a vote of 376-2.
The bill, H.R. 2157, according to the article, will “help ensure the continued economic vibrancy of the Mammoth Mountain Ski Area.” It will help facilitate the land exchange between MMSA’s Main Lodge parcel and “other desired Forest Service acquisitions.”
Currently MMSA operates at the Main Lodge under a Special Use Permit from the Forest Service. This permit makes it difficult for MMSA to renovate and redevelop the Main Lodge, the article continued.
According to some of McKeon’s remarks while presenting the legislation, MMSA has been working with the Forest Service on this land exchange since 1998.
