Bluebird Imaging and Gallery is hosting the opening reception of its annual women’s art show on Friday, May 31 from 5-8 p.m. at the gallery’s new first floor location in the Sierra Center Mall.

For those with good memories, Bluebird is now in the spot formerly occupied by the Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon gift shop, er, Gathering Feathers, Singing Leaves.

Bluebird’s Kendra Knight said that Dana Ellis came up with the original housewives theme.

“None of us watch it. We know it’s soap opera-y,” said Knight, “but we also know we’re all desperate in our own ways. And all of us are working housewives.” So the theme stuck.

Participating artists will include Ellis, Knight, Lori Michelon, Taylor Kumlue, Kristin Schipke, Laurel Stanford and Margaret Palchak.

“A lot of it [the show] is humorous,” continued Knight. “Some obvious, some abstract.”

As one example, she mentioned an abstract piece by Lori Michelon of an oven mitt (too hot to handle).

One thing you can expect when you arrive is seven sexy housewives dressed in aprons. You can also expect food, drink and live entertainment (acoustic guitar).
