Stellar Brew and Fathead Productions are bringing a new music and art festival experience to Mammoth next weekend on Sunday, Aug. 11 at the café location and parking lot. The inaugural Stellar Fest, which begins at 2 p.m. and runs to 10 p.m., will offer booths of avant-garde art, as well as five bands performing throughout the evening.
Bands include local groups The Core Shots and Daughters Rhea, in addition to Little Fuller Band (folk/bluegrass/Americana), True Press (reggae), and headliner and award-winner Arden Park Roots (rock/reggae/punk).
“We’d like to add a little variety to the music scene,” said Fathead Productions co-founder and KMMT/KRHV DJ Katie McWilliams.
Event coordinator Kyle Scalise agreed, citing his inspiration for the event as an opportunity to bring together not just great musicians, but also edgier local artists. To that end, Stellar Brew and Fathead Productions partnered with Craig Sterling of Mono County’s EDGEArts to bring unique local art to the Fest.
“This has been such a group project,” Scalise said of the collaboration; “We’ve been able to get the best people to do what they’re best at.”
In addition to music and art, Stellar Fest will also offer organic, delicious food choices courtesy of Stellar Brew owner Andrea Walker. Beer, wine and Stellar Brew’s homemade sangria will be available to festival goers over 21.
All ages are welcome, Scalise said, and he encouraged attendees to bring a chair or even a pet, and consider walking to the venue since parking will be limited.
McWilliams described Stellar Fest as “a way for Andrea to thank local customers.” But the Fest will also say thank you to the larger community, donating 10% of profits to Inyo Mono Advocates for Community Action for children’s food and art supplies.
The end goal: create an annual event with growing power. “Eventually we’d like this to be a huge festival, with 20,000 people or so,” McWilliams said. “This year we’re just getting our feet wet.”
Presale tickets are available for $7 at Stellar Brew and The Tap. Tickets are $9 at the door. For more information, contact Stellar Brew at 760.924.3559, stop by the café, or visit the event webpage at https://www.facebook.com/stellarfestmammoth.
