On the Youth side …
Youth Sports are a big part of our community. Mammoth Youth Football and Cheer are one of many organized youth sports programs in our small mountain community. A recent trip by MYFL to an away game brought to me the awareness of how special our community really is. I am referring especially to a very special gentleman named Marvin Orrick. Marvin has been the announcer at both Mammoth High School football games as well as Mammoth Youth Football games for, well let’s just say, a long time. Marvin is a huge asset to our community because is he “Pro-Youth.” When listening to Marvin on the loudspeaker, you would not know who’s “side,” he is on. This is because Marvin is NOT on the home side, or the away side … he is on the “Youth,” side. Marvin goes above and beyond to recognize all players on both teams by their first and last name. He recognizes each individual players contribution to the game on BOTH sides. He recognizes good plays, bad plays, penalties, touchdowns, extra points, on BOTH sides! He demands that the crowd recognize the efforts of all youth involved on BOTH sides. Marvin demands from the home team and crowd a large cheer and shout out after any player from either side recovers from an injury. Marvin takes the time to recognize the community of Mammoth and recognizes everybody involved who makes these events possible. A recent visit by MYFL to an away game, brought the awareness to me, that this is not necessarily a common trait, Marvin is truly a SPECIAL man. Adults need to remember that youth sports are about kids, simply put, about their personal growth, and nothing else!
MYFL would personally and publicly like to thank Marvin Orrick for his many years of service to the youth of our community. He sets an example we should all admire and strive for!
