Overcast, stormy-looking skies at dawn gave way to warming sunshine and calm for perfect mid-winter conditions to race a 5K. Sage to Summit reported a solid turnout for the first of three 5Ks in its Winter Race Series intended to benefit Inyo County Search and Rescue.

Katie Larsen took first place out of 17 women competitors, with a time of 21:51. Jeff Kozak took first place out of 21 male competitors, with a time of 19:24. Cosmo Schwartz may have been the youngest competitor at five years old. Cosmo completed the run in 31:23. For complete results, visit the Sage to Summit Facebook page.

This year’s local sponsors include Mountain Rambler Brewery, Eastside Juice Bar, The Burger Barn, Black Sheep Coffee Roasters, Eastside Sports, Great Basin Bakery, Manor Market, Looney Bean of Bishop, Stellar Brew and Natural Cafe.

The next race is scheduled for Saturday, February 13, beginning at 9 a.m.
