Letters to the Editor
Dear Editor ...

You abandoned Orange County, too!

Dear Editor:

On your topic of abandoning flights to Las Vegas (see the December 17 front page story on the short-lived, direct commercial air service to Las Vegas), let’s talk about how fast we pulled out of Orange County.

Somehow for LAX we have stuck with supporting 13 flights a week in winter, and even 5 flights a week in the lowest shoulder season (I have seen as few as six people on a flight during shoulder season), but we can’t manage a single flight all year out of Orange County.

That’s some 4 million people who live within 20 minutes of ultra-easy John Wayne airport who, instead of being solicited by Mammoth, are being solicited by others to hop on a real jet for a 95 percent on-time, 90 minute flight to Salt Lake City or a two hour flight to Denver. They can reach dozens of resorts in the same or less time than you have to allow just to drive from Orange County to LAX and get through that airport—before ever setting foot on the plane. Talk about kissing off a target market.
