Flood forces 395 closure

Rains from a spring storm brought down a wall of mud and debris Monday night at the California/Nevada border, forcing the closure of Highway 395 in both directions.

The road reopened at 1 p.m. Tuesday, but according to Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) officials, the wet weather pattern is expected to continue through the weekend and may cause the road to closed again.

A flash flood warning for the Topaz area was issued by the National Weather Service in Reno at 12 p.m. Wednesday.

A Severe Thundertorm Warning was issued at 2 p.m. on Thursday for the Topaz area calling for quarter-sized hail and winds causing roof damage.

According to Caltrans District 9, three mudslides were reported near Topaz Lodge and Casino and the state line.
