 Who needs Alaska Airlines? United adds service to Mammoth from L.A. 

When Alaska Airlines pulled out of Mammoth in May, announcing it would no longer fly to Mammoth from L.A. and San Diego, former Mammoth Mayor Michael Raimondo declared it “fantasy” that another airline would pick up the slack.

Why would another major airline take a chance on a market that a competitor gave up on for underperforming? he asked rhetorically.

Well, it looks like it took all of 33 days for the fantasy to come true.

Mammoth Lakes Tourism (MLT) and Mammoth Mountain announced at the MLT Board meeting Tuesday that United Airlines has committed to flying the Mammoth- LAX route beginning December 1.
