Karen Schwartz runs for reelection
The current mayor of Bishop, Karen Schwartz is running for a second term on Bishop City Council.
Schwartz mentioned several issues that she hopes to address, if elected to serve another term on the Bishop City Council.
The first: Downtown. “We are actively pursuing every opportunity to figure out what we can do to have a more attractive downtown. That is a huge one!” she said.
The downtown challenege is twofold. Not only its vitality (open stores vs. empty storefronts), but its fucntionality, beauty and landscape.
“[We are] figuring out what we can do to address the changing economic times, where people shop very differently than they used to. I’m in it every day as a downtown merchant [as owner of Sage to Summit] and I know firsthand that people buy online all the time. It’s easy, it’s convenient [and] you can buy anything you want, and the price is exactly the same as you find in your community,” she said.
How Schwartz survived in her own business was to create multiple revenue streams.
