Mammoth’s Volleyball Invitational blasted onto the High School’s two courts and a court at the Middle School with a bang last weekend. 10 teams competed in this year’s tournament: Mammoth JV and Varsity, Bishop JV and Varsity, Lone Pine, California City, Rosamond, Mineral County, Tioga and Yosemite. Several teams came in on Thursday and stayed through Sunday, getting in some hiking and shopping while in town.
Mammoth posted two teams in the top four slots: 1) Yosemite, 2) Mammoth Varsity, 3) California City and 4) Mammoth JV.
“Both Mammoth Huskies teams came out showing their hard work and passion,” Mammoth Head Coach Megan Guffey commented. “Both teams were attempting to put into play various things we have been working on in practice, and they did a good job!” The JV team bested several varsity teams, while the Varsity Huskies fought and held on to second place.
Tournament sponsors and donors: Mammoth Lion’s Club, Mammoth Noon Rotary Club, Roxanne Tallman, Mammoth Lakes Chamber of Commerce, Snowcreek Resort, Mammoth Women’s Club, Summit Physical Therapy, High Sierra Distributing/Pepsi, Vern Clevenger Photography, Side Door Café, Aloha Suds and Vons, and many unsung MUSD staff, coaches, volunteers, referees, parents and friends.
The Huskies’ next home match will be Monday, Sept. 19, versus Big Pine. JV plays at 4 p.m., and Varsity takes the court at 5 p.m.
