This holiday season, iPhone-users looking for that perfect stocking stuffer may want to hop online and spring for the $1.99 to download PowderNation’s new PowderGuide iPhone app for Mammoth Lakes.
“I’m very excited to deliver cutting edge technology to our guests in Mammoth,” said Eric Wasserman, President of the Mammoth Lakes Chamber of Commerce. “I believe the features in our mobile phone application will greatly enhance the Mammoth experience; the ability to have access to anything you may need or desire.”
The PowderGuide utilizes the features at the core of smart phones: GPS-guided turn-by-turn directions, automatic dialing, streaming webcams, Mammoth Mountain Ski Patrol emergency notification, road conditions, and interactive maps. It’s all at the touch of a button, along with lots of other much used and sought after information.
Powder Nation co-founder Julien Bassan said the innovative iPhone app is tailored to Mammoth visitors. “It allows access to everything they could ever want to know about their winter destination, in this case Mammoth Lakes. Sunny [Zaman, co-founder] and I have been coming to Mammoth for decades and couldn’t be happier about the opportunity to offer Mammoth guests one of the very first PowderGuides,” Bassan said. Mammoth is among the first of several destinations that will offer similar versions of the PowderGuide mobile phone application this winter season.
“Basically the idea is to do less work planning, and have more fun,” as the two like to say. Bassan and business partner Zaman said the Mammoth PowderGuide is currently available for the iPhone through Apple’s iTunes App Store, and will soon be available on Blackberry, Windows Mobile, Palm and Android platforms.
The first app of its kind targeted specifically towards mountain and ski towns, the PowderGuide is organized with strategically grouped categories of business and other reference listings. Buttons allow access to a myriad of content channels.
The founders said the idea for the app came from their passion for travel and the outdoors. The duo met in college, and now operate PowderNation from offices in Southern California.
“It’s all about bringing together society and technology.” Zaman said. The two say the app’s main purpose is to provide “unmatched ease and convenience for other outdoor enthusiasts,” through the use of mobile phone applications.
