Wounded Warriors
Disabled Sports Eastern Sierra once again welcomes members of the military and their families to “Wounded Warriors,” in which injured soldiers learn how to adapt their “newly-altered bodies.” From Jan. 31-Feb. 4, they’ll participate in a variety of winter activities including skiing, snowboarding, snowmobiling, dog sledding and cross country skiing. The 15 soldiers have sustained an array of disabilities while serving for duty, including limb amputations, severe burns, nerve injuries, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI).
Disabled Sports Eastern Sierra will roll out the red carpet to all participants, even those who are not supported by many other adaptive programs. Nearly all Wounded Warriors programs across the country follow the Disabled Sports USA (DSUSA) guidelines, which don’t include PTSD as a recognized disability. DSES, however, is able to welcome these men and women into the program. Info: 760.934.0791 or www.disabledsportseasternsierra.org.
