38th Parallel Talk
The regular meeting of the Mono Basin Historical Society on Monday, April 5 will include a slide program about the on-going exploration of the 38th Parallel by authors David and Janet Carle.
The 38 degree North latitude line runs through Mono Lake. The Carles, who are 28-year residents of the Mono Basin and former park rangers at Mono Lake, have a book contract with the University of California Press to write about their exploration of the water-related environmental and cultural history around the world along the latitude line.
The 1-hour program at the Lee Vining Community Center will begin at 7 p.m. on following the 5:30 p.m. regular business meeting and a 6:30 p.m. potluck dinner. For more information, call 760.647.6431
ICare Dinner
The 14th annual ICare (Inyo County Animal Resources and Education) fundraiser dinner will take place on April 17 at 6 p.m. at the Tri-County Fairgrounds in Bishop.
ICare was founded in 1997 and since its inception, has funded over 8,000 spay/neuter surgeries at a cost of $280,000.
FOOD PANTRY OPEN
The Salvation Army and Church on the Mountain have opened a food pantry in Mammoth to serve those in need of food assistance. The food pantry has a well-stocked facility at 220 Sierra Manor Rd., adjacent to Higerd Plumbing, to provide assistance and accept food and cash donations. Hours of operation: Monday/Wednesday 2-5 p.m. and Saturday noon-4 p.m.
