Gunshots heard near Twin Lakes
On July 12 at 7:19 p.m., the Mammoth Lakes Police Department responded to a call regarding the sound of several gunshots in the Twin Lakes area in the Mammoth Lakes Basin. After one hour of searching, with the aid of CHP and the Mono County Sheriff’s Department, MLPD was unable to locate a subject and left the area.
It is illegal to discharge a firearm within the limits of the Town of Mammoth Lakes, which includes the Twin Lakes area in the Lakes Basin. The last high profile occurance of gunshots in the Lakes Basin was on Sept. 22, 2009 when Roy Flores shot and killed a bear. Flores was sentenced with community service and a fine for shooting the bear and discharging a firearm in a prohibited area.
