On Dec. 5 at approximately 8 a.m. MLPD officers responded to Roberto’s Restaurant for a burglary investigation. An employee discovered the crime when she reported to work at 7:20 and observed cash registers open and other evidence of a burglary. The investigation revealed that the suspect broke a window to enter the restaurant.

A short time later an employee of Grumpy’s Restaurant discovered that a burglary had occurred at that restaurant as well. Officers responded to Grumpy’s and determined that it was likely the same suspect had committed both crimes. An expensive mountain bike belonging to a Grumpy’s employee was taken. Surveillance video from Grumpy’s was viewed and the suspect was observed on the video.  One of the Grumpy’s employees recognized the suspect as a local Mammoth Lakes resident known as  “Chito.” The employee didn’t know Chito’s real name but told the officers that he lives at Sierra Park Villas and identified his truck parked in the Sierra Park Villas parking lot.

Officers conducted additional follow-up investigation and determined that “Chito’s” true name is Eduardo Barrios Navarro, age 22. Officers obtained additional evidence that tied Navarro to both crimes. The officers obtained a search warrant for Navarro’s residence and arrested him for both burglaries. Navarro confessed to both crimes and all stolen property was recovered.

Navarro was booked for commercial burglary at Mono County Jail with a bail of $50,000. –MLPD Press Release
