Former June Lake and Mono County resident Robert (Bob) Dore passed away on Monday Feb. 28. A beloved father, grandfather, friend, Dore lived a long and blessed life. He was born in Montebello, Calif., on April 6, 1923. He and his wife, Marcia, moved to the Eastern Sierra in 1965, where they raised their family of eight children at Silver Lake on the June Lake Loop.

An integral part of Mono County society, Dore’s residence was located above June Lake’s Silver Lake resort. He was a local business owner of both Mountaineer Hardware and, for a short time, the Tiger Bar, and an owner of various properties in June Lake.

Dore was also an usher/handyman at Our Savior of the Mountains Catholic Church in Lee Vining, and at one time a candidate for Mono County Supervisor. He served on the Mono County grand jury, June Lake Chamber of Commerce, June Lake Lion’s Club and was a member of E Clampus Vitas.

During WWII, Dore also served his country proudly and honorably in the United States Navy.

He is survived by seven children; Rob, Ollie, Steve, Fitz, Dave, Pene, Carrie, 25 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Bob has joined his previously deceased wife, Marcia, and son, Peter.

Bob Dore was a brilliant, loving, quiet man who will be truly missed.

A family reunion is scheduled for April 9 in Fallbrook, Calif., at the home of Fitz Dore, where all will gather to celebrate Bob’s wonderful life.

A graveside interment at the Mono Lake cemetery is being planned for the Fourth of July weekend.
