Holiday packing for troops
The Mammoth Troops Committee will hold its Christmas Box packing on Sunday, Dec. 11, at 11:30 a.m. in the Mammoth Lakes Community Center. The volunteers box up a variety of goodies from home — everything ranging from letters to home-baked cookies to The Sheet — for Mono County’s 18 current servicemen and women currently deployed in the armed forces all over the globe. In this packing, the committee is looking for dental floss, tooth brushes and paste, shaving cream, razors, body wash and wipes and foot powder, sweetened beverage mixes, assorted battery sizes, black socks and olive green t-shirts, as well as energy bars, beef jerky, pepperoni, nuts, granola bars, gum and hard candy.
Special thanks to all the teachers and students from the area, who write letters of encouragement and send pictures.
All volunteer help is welcome, and donations can be dropped off ahead of time at Mammoth Reservations, next to Schat’s on Main St. before Dec. 9. Money to help with shipping is also needed. Send checks to Mammoth Troops, P.O. Box 2063, Mammoth Lakes, CA 93546.
