Baywatch is becoming Graywatch! So, where’s the Pamela Anderson version of grandma? Just asking!

At an age where many senior citizens float better than they swim, paradoxically many are working as lifeguards across the country to fill a gap in the severe shortage of young people willing to work as lifeguards at pools and beaches – that or being willing or able to work a summer job at all. The national news media has been taking notice of the change.

The drastic shortage of lifeguards nationwide has prompted many aquatics professionals to “think outside the box.” So, in addition to increasing pay, which has long been a problem, they’ve turned to recruiting older adults. Turns out it’s a great way to make a little extra retirement income for many senior citizens.

Almost all the major television news media outlets and print media have reported on the changing demographics of lifeguarding.
