Bake or eat pie for cancer

Pie, pie, me oh my! It will be a pie-lover’s dream on Tuesday, Nov. 23 at KMMT as the local radio station holds a Pie Auction for the Cancer Outreach Program at Mammoth Hospital. The program helps reimburse individuals who have to go out of town to deal with cancer-related issues with their food, gas and hotel bills. All of the proceeds from Tuesday’s auction will go to this program.
KMMT is asking for pie makers to pull out their rolling pins and donate a pie, and for pie connoisseurs to be the highest bidder for their favorite flavor of this delectable dessert on Tuesday. The auction will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Nov. 23 at KMMT. Pie makers are asked to deliver their donated pies to KMMT beginning the afternoon of Nov. 22, and no later than 7:30 a.m. on Nov. 23.
Each pie needs to be accompanied by a description of the pie, the name and phone number of the pie maker, and a sentence or two about why you decided to make and donate for the Cancer Outreach Program. The hope is that the donated pies will be homemade, but if you just can’t muster up your Betty Crocker skills and still want to participate, a purchased pie is OK, too.
After the pies are auctioned off, buyers will need to come to KMMT no later than Nov. 24 at noon to pay for and pick up their pies.
A similar pie auction will be held in December to raise money for the Cancer Outreach Program at Northern Inyo Hospital.
Please call Stacey Powells at KMMT (760.934.8888, ext. 13) if you are interested in donating a pie either for Tuesday’s event or the second auction in December.
