Scott Cameron Slater, 21, of Chino Hills was arrested Jan. 30 after being identified by a Mammoth homeowner as the person who had entered his home illegally, vandalized property and brandished a knife.
Officers responded to a 911 call at approximately 11:30 p.m. on Jan. 29 from a couple who live in the Knolls neighborhood.
The husband had just chased a male intruder out of his home. He said the intruder was armed with one knife and possibly two.
The suspect had entered the home through the unlocked front door.
The residents were awakened when the suspect knocked over some glassware in the kitchen.
When confronted, the suspect brandished a bowie-style knife before leaving the residence.
About ten minutes later, Mammoth Lakes Police located a person matching the suspect’s description one street over.
This person, later identified as Slater, was taken into custody without incident.
The homeowner was brought to the scene and positively identified Slater as the burglary suspect.
The homeowners also positively identified some property recovered from Slater as having come from their house.
Slater was booked into Mono County Jail on charges of first degree burglary, possession of stolen property, exhibiting a deadly firearm and vandalism.
A charge of carrying a concealed knife was added after further investigation revealed Slater had hidden the large knife in his clothing when he entered a local bar earlier in the evening.
