Over the weekend Mammoth Mountain MVP pass holders received the following letter from Mammoth’s CEO Rusty Gregory announcing that MVP passes for the 2010-11 ski season will be selling for $639, unless you commit for two years and then the pass is priced at $609 per year.
“Dear Charter MVP Holder,
Last year at this time I wrote about how Dave McCoy, our founder, always told us that Mammoth Mountain was about fun – fun with our friends and fun with our family. We created the Mammoth Value Pass (MVP) 11 years ago as a way to make it as affordable as possible for as many people as possible to have fun here on the mountain. The financial crisis and severe recession convinced us to open MVP to new members last year for the first time since 2006. 40,000 people joined the club, many of them new members, before we shut off pass sales to avoid overcrowding on weekends and holidays.
Since its inception, the MVP has been by far the most inexpensive way to ski and ride Mammoth Mountain. The one-year MVP will continue this tradition next year at $639. Next season, the price of a daily lift ticket will be $92 so if you plan on skiing more than 6 days next season you are better off to renew your MVP membership when they go on sale this April. I say renew because MVP is once again closed to everyone other than current MVP members.
You will be receiving more information and details from our Marketing Department, like the all-new two-year deal on the MVP for $609 per year, but I wanted you to hear about the basics of MVP from me personally. I think of MVP members more like partners than customers. We have attempted to return the investment of frequent visits you have made to Mammoth Mountain over the years by providing you with our lowest price for skiing and riding in the form of the MVP program. Like our other partners, I know you have ideas on how we can provide better service, what chairlift or restaurant we should build next or how much less we should charge for lift tickets. Please send me your comments and suggestions at firstname.lastname@example.org or call me personally at 760.934.0731.
The next MVP Early Ups is scheduled for March 27. I’ll be loading on Broadway Express (Chair 1 to most of you) at 7:30. I hope you’ll be there too.
Very truly yours,
