Mono County news briefs
On June 21 at 10:10 a.m., the Mono County Sheriff’s Department received a call from a citizen in Chalfant Valley reporting she may have found dynamite and blasting caps on her property. The Mono County Sheriff’s Department and Chalfant Valley Fire Department responded to the scene. The California Emergency Management Agency (Cal EMA) Duty Officer was notified and a request for mutual aid was initiated. Explosive Technicians from CAL-FIRE responded on June 22 to dispose of the ordinance.
Also on June 22, the Mono County Sheriff’s Department received two separate calls regarding overdue hikers in the county. The first call was for an overdue hiker in the White Mountains. Mono County Sheriff’s Department personnel determined the general location to be in Inyo County. The hiker was located and is safe. The second incident was an overdue hiker that activated a Personal Location Beacon (PLB). The initial coordinates indicated the hiker was overdue in Mono County. After further investigation, the PLB activation was in Inyo County near the Owens Lake. —Mono County Press Release
