Former Cerro Coso Dean is new Comedy Traffic School instructor

Joe DeFlyer may be more familiar to Eastern Sierra residents from his tenure as the former Dean of the Bishop and Mammoth campuses of Cerro Coso Community College, but the Chalfant resident is still very active, and will soon bring his wisdom – and wit –  to the “I’ll Never Speed Again” Comedy Traffic School as the new Bishop instructor. The long-running course, which is also the Eastern Sierra’s only DMV-approved traffic school, is owned by Oceanside resident (and June and Mammoth frequenter) Ken Harrison, whose California Comedy Traffic Schools now boasts 100 DMV-licensed classes. Harrison, no stranger to the Eastern Sierra, still runs the business very “hands on,” serving as Chairman, CEO, CFO, COO and the Lunch Committee. Of DeFlyer’s joining the team, Harrison commented, “We’re very excited Joe found us. With his years of teaching, he will keep our students entertained and informed.” DeFlyer seems to share that same enthusiasm for the Traffic School.

Sheet: How did you find this particular brand of teaching?

DeFlyer: “I’ve been a teacher most of my life, and now I’m retired. But, the Comedy Traffic School has used the Church of Religious Science (in Bishop) for a number of years, and I happen to be in the congregation. The previous instructor moved out of the area and there was a need and I said, ‘Why not?'”

Sheet: Are you funny?

DeFlyer: “I hope so! Ken’s pretty quick and he’s an inspiration. He’s got 100 classes, which speaks to the quality. I’ve taken some online classes and sat in on some other live classes and they’re deadly dull. The Comedy Traffic School allows interaction with the instructor and among the students and that goes a long way to fixing people.”

DeFlyer’s first class will be Saturday, Sept. 18. Pre-registration is required; call 800.941.2687 to sign up. –PR/Sheet Staff
