Going up?

No, the elevators at the Sierra Center Mall are not the scene of a grisly accident, confirmed mall owner Paul Rudder on Wednesday. The lifts are simply out of order.

“A succession of technicians from Otis Elevators have tried to fix it, but without success,” Rudder said. “There someone working on it right now and they have orders not to leave until it’s either fixed or it’s Friday at 5 p.m.”

As for the caution tape, Rudder said he is just erring on the side of caution.

“You wouldn’t want someone to try and call for the elevator and then try to open the doors when it does not come, and fall in,” he said.

In the meantime, visitors to the mall can simply use the stairs, which according to flyers that are posted near the elevators, is better for your health, anyway. Since someone using the stairs for one minute will burn 10 calories versus the 1.5 calories you burn riding in an elevator.
