Calling all Wild Spirits
Razzle the Raven, door prizes, wildlife slide show, great hors d’oeuvres, snakes, silent auction (great gifts for Christmas!)—put them all together and what have you got? That’s right! It’s Eastern Sierra Wildlife Care’s Fifth Annual Wild Spirits fundraiser, Sunday, Oct. 24, 6-8 p.m., at beautiful Mountain Light Gallery, Main and Line, Bishop.
Razzle is ESWC’s new Wildlife Ambassador. Meet him and other critters (the kids’ll love the snakes!) and help ESWC raise funds to buy painkillers and antibiotics, mealworms and smelt, rakes and hoses, heating pads and light bulbs!

Fall Blood Drive ups the ante
United Blood Services is asking individuals and businesses to “Find the Hero Inside You!” UBS, in association with long time partners the Mammoth Hospital Auxiliary, will hold their fall Blood Drive in Mammoth at the Fire Station #1 on Main Street on Oct. 19-21, from 10-6 daily (10-2 on Thurs.).
This year, UBS issued a challenge to businesses: “WHO CAN BRING IN THE MOST DONORS FOR THE BLOOD DRIVE?” Up for grabs is a reward for the highest percentage of employees who donate! And, Dennis Domaille said he’ll once again happily donate a fish taco plate from the Whoa Nellie Deli for each donor to make the deal even sweeter, er, fishier, er, taco-ier! To schedule an appointment, log on to www.Bloodhero.com and enter Sponsor Code: SNOW or call 760.937.9911. –Sheet Staff

Whitney fuelwood sale
The Mount Whitney Ranger District of the Inyo National Forest is planning a special personal use fuelwood sale in the Whitney Portal Area beginning Oct. 20.
A limited number of participants for this fuelwood event will be selected by lottery, since there is a very limited amount of wood available.
Whitney Portal is normally closed to gathering personal use fuelwood, however specific areas within the drainage will be opened for fuelwood during this special event as wood becomes available from a fuels reduction project. A lottery will be used to determine who will be allowed to gather fuelwood in the area. Lottery entries will be accepted through Oct. 29. Individuals may submit one lottery entry per person, in person or by phone at the Interagency Visitor Center in Lone Pine, 760.876.6222. First selection will occur on Oct. 20.
Individuals will be randomly selected. Lottery selections may be made several times as more wood becomes available.
For more information, contact project leader Rick Napoles by email at rnapoles@fs.fed.us or by phone at 760.876.6205.
