According to the Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks, the two missing hikers that were still at large in the Mt. Whitney area were found on Friday, Oct. 22.
According to a press release, the father and son who had been called in as missing after they did not emerge on time from a 36-mile cross-country loop. The two men, Sina Sadeghi Baghsorkhi, 27, and Abdolreza Sadeghi, 56, were expected back from the Mt. Whitney area on Oct. 19. When they did not arrive, a friend who was suppose to complete the loop with them but had to turn back early due to illness, reported them missing.
The two men finally walked out on Friday on park trails in the Cedar Grove area; approximately 50 miles away and far from their original planned route, the release said.
Approximately 70 people assisted with the search and rescue effort, including the National Park Service, Los Angeles County Search and Rescue, Sierra Madre Search and Rescue, Inyo County Sheriff’s Office, Inyo County Search and Rescue, and the California National Guard.
Finding these two hikers wrapped up a busy week of search and rescue operations near Mt. Whitney. Three other missinig hikers, from a different group had been found on Thursday. –NPS
