Mammoth V-ball takes Bishop, Boron
Broncos no match for Lady Huskies; Bobcats swept by Guffey’s girls
Mammoth Volleyball was back at it against Bishop last week, after splitting the last matchup with a JV loss and a Varsity win. This time, both teams prevailed.
JV was able to take the win after a 3-set match, and Varsity took the win in 5 sets. Coach Megan Guffey said the Varsity’s first game started rough due to recent team changes and line up and rotation. “Then, the girls hung in there, settled down and started to play volleyball,” Guffey summarized. The Lady Huskies dropped the first game 20-25, but picked up the next 25-19. Bishop rallied back to claim game three 15-25, but the Huskies held on in games four and five, 25-19 and 15-9 to close out the match.
Amanda Kirkeby got in 10 digs and 2 aces, Jessie Harris busily racked up 9 digs, 1 assist, 9 kills, 10 blocks and an ace, Kristen Sigmen got in 12 digs, 3 kills, 3 blocks and 2 aces, Sydney Knadler posted 3 digs, 5 kills, 2 blocks and an ace, Cassidy Morris logged 34 big assists, 2 kills and 2 aces, Kelly Berger killed it with 10 digs, 10 kills, 2 aces, Bailey Rowan got in 2 kills and a block, and Jolene Senn picked up a dig and 2 kills.
Lady Huskies sweep up
The JV swept Boron in an easy 2-set match. The Bobcats put up more resistance when it came to the Varsity match, which ended up going 5 sets, but went to the Huskies 25-23, 25-20, 19-25, 11-25 and 15-11.
Kirkeby had 9 digs and 1 kill, Bailey Rowan put in 4 kills and 1 ace, Jessie Harris got 5 digs, 15 kills, 5 blocks and a pair of aces, Kristen Sigmen dug in for 5 digs, 1 assist, 5 kills and 6 big aces, Sydney Knadler posted 3 digs, 1 assist, 7 kills and ace, Cassidy Morris helped out with a dig, a kill and a whopping 40 assists, Kelly Berger smashed in 5 digs, 13 kills, 1 block and 2 aces. Guffey also noted “great effort put in by Jolene Senn and Sabrina Clevenger.
The Lady Huskies play this weekend at Desert Christian and at Vasquez. “This should be a tough weekend, but I am confident that the Huskies will put up a great fight and play hard,” Coach Guffey forecast.
The Huskies’ next home game is against Lone Pine on Oct. 11 in the MHS gym. JV plays at 4 p.m., and Varsity starts at 5 p.m. –Press Release
