Economic driver Alicia Vennos
Kudos to Mono County Economic Development Manager Alicia Vennos who, with the click of a camera brought movie makers back to Mono County for the filming of Tom Cruise’s movie, “Oblivion.”
According to Economic Development Director Dan Lyster, the movie location scouts originally wanted to film in Mono County. Lyster and Vennos worked with some locations that eventually ended up falling through. The location scouts moved on to look for spots in Wyoming and elsewhere, but Vennos kept in touch with them. They weren’t finding what they wanted, which was a secluded lake location, so Vennos snapped a few shots of Black’s Pond near the Double Eagle and sent them to the scouts.
“They liked it and were able to work a deal with Ralph at the Double Eagle to do the shoot,” Lyster said. Vennos was out of town this week and could not be reached for comment.
According to Lyster more than 1,500 room nights throughout the county will be realized during the course of the shoot.
2 bad only 2 of those rooms are in June
